Nigerian Photographer : Pictures by Mike

I was at the Maryland studios of my very good friend, big brother and mentor, Micheal Inyang.

Micheal is one of those Nigerian photographers that help lay my foundation in this industry, he is extremely talented and easily one of the best photographers of our generation, lol, sorry, his generation o.

I was just there to hang out with a friend. He had recently just got one of the new nikon 85mm lens and was eager to try it out on a model, enter Xsightn. So I volunteered my modeling services and he politely accepted. To get behind the len of one of Nigeria’s top photographers was always a wonderful expereince for me, the last time I did that, I remember coming out with some breath taking images, one of those pictures is framed right now if my memory serves me correctly.

So we fooled around in the studio for quite sometime and this are the images we came out with, as usual amazing images.

I have tried to do as little processing as possible to keep this pictures true to what they were intended to be.

We did not have the luxury of a makeup artist but I think the shoot went pretty well, what do you think ?

Nigerian Photographer – Pictures from Cape Town – Continued

Ok, so I promised more pictures from my South African trip and when Xsightn promises, Xsightn delivers.

The picture below is from my “Strong ” Collection, I was looking for an edgy look, something slightly outside a normal look.

It was about 2 pm and the sun was out at full blast and normally you wouldn’t be able to make a good shot under the condition but many thanks to my Profoto gear, I was able to do just that.

Picture was taken with my amazing Nikon D700. (The best camera in the world by far and am not kidding)

Lens was my trusty Nikon 70-200 2.8 @ F20 ( Sometime back on Twitter, I complained about not using this lens much when I shoot Nigerian weddings lately, I wouldn’t venture on any location based photography session without this baby)

Shutter was set to a ridiculous 1/320s

Flash was Profoto 7b unit with 2400 battery pack fired at full power.

Am not the most amazing of “photoshop-ers” (if there’s even a word like that) but for this images I had to rely on a bit of photoshop to get out that strong feel, working mostly with blend modes, I was able to achieve the look I like. If you have ever attended one of my seminars or seen one of my albums, you will know when it comes to wedding photography am not really big on “too much photoshop”, but that’s for wedding photography, location and commercial photography are a totally different business.

My models for this look are Max and Nadia both models from Europe.

Photos from Cape Town – by Kayode of Xsightn Photography

Ok, so maybe the title of this post should really have been “photo” rather than “photos”.

I was in Cape Town a few weeks back to shoot a wedding for a client, wedding was prosponed at the last minute unfortunately.

Rather than be dampend by that, I put together 2 professional full day photo shoots, working with an amazing South African makeup artist/ stylist and top models from Germany, the USA, Spain and South Africa. I was able to build an amazing collection of pictures for my clients and my personal portfolio.

None of my crew and models had ever worked with a professional photographer from Nigeria so it was a whole new experience for them.

Being a Nigerian wedding photographer, shooting weddings in Nigeria, the photography scene in South Africa actually caught me off guard. One thing is certain though, I will be back in Cape Town at least 3 more times this year.

From my 2 days of photography I worked with only the best quality gear. For 3 days I has a Hasselblad all to myself and got to understand what all the “fuss” was about. The Hasselblad is a beast of a camera. While it was a bit tricky in the beginning, it quickly fit like a glove after a couple of clicks.

Unfortunately I am only posting one picture now, much more is certain to follow as I have about 4,000 images from the shoot, I have videos of behind the scenes and interviews as well but right now I have to bury my head in the heap of Nigerian wedding photos I have to put together.

One of the themes of the photo shoot was “playful and doll”, the below picture was taken from that collection.

NIGERIAN WEDDINGS – PRE-WEDDING PHOTOSHOOT OF OSAN AND MISAN

I got to meet this couple for the first time today and we had this engagement session today.

It was a bit “fast” for me but the lighting was perfect and I had all my gear in my car from a photo assignment I did a day before.

While this photo session took place in Lagos, Nigeria, both the bride and groom are based in Delta State Nigeria where the wedding proper will be taking place.

Osan and Misan as you will see were totally not camera shy, we tried to keep everything clean and simple.

I personally think engagement shoots are very important because it allows for some bonding between the photographer and the couple, it would have been totally awkward getting to meet the couple on the wedding day proper. Imagine me walking over to them to introduce myself as the “official” wedding photographer of the day. It really would be strange, they wouldn’t really know what to expect, the chemistry required wouldn’t exist as well.

Today’s photo session was fun, we laughed alot and got to know each other a whole lot better, (Like i got to find out Osan was actually Misan’s “school father” back in the days, imagine how much laugh we got out of that )I left the session feeling like I had known them for ages.

Nigerian Pre-wedding shoot of Femi and Bimbo

Nigerian Pre-wedding shoot of Femi and Bimbo.

Been too lazy to post anything in a while, just about musted out the strength to put this together.

This is the engagement photo shoot of Femi and Bimbo which i did a few weeks ago.

The Nigerian wedding takes place in September nd i simply cannot wait for this wedding.

They are such a fun couple to work with, they both couldn’t stop teasing each other, it was so much fun to watch (and shoot).

This shoot was done in the early hours of a Sunday morning when most of the world was probably still sleeping, the sun wasn’t out yet so the light was very soft and was just perfect to shoot such a lovely couple. I used a speed-light soft box for a couple of the shots just to give it some depth.
