The Traditional Yoruba Wedding of Bukky and Lekan

    Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

Here are pictures from one of the last Nigerian weddings we covered in 2012. The couple are from the Yourba tribe in Nigeria and thus had a very traditional Yoruba wedding.

Both based in the UK, Bukola and Lekan came back home to tie knots. The wedding was indeed very colourful as you will see from the images. It was a special wedding for me to cover as the bride is friends with my wife and it was through this union we landed the gig.

One of the cool things about this wedding was that I knew alot of the guest, at a point I handed my camera to one of the guest so I could get in the picture too, you will find that image down there somewhere. I shot this wedding with very minimum gear and had to do a lot of “moving back” to get my images.

Here are some of the images from the Nigerian Traditional Yourba Wedding (that’s a mouth full) of Bukola and Lekan Shiwoku.

StudioMO is a leading photography and design studio based in Lagos, Nigeria. We do alot of fashion and wedding photography work and have shot for some of the very biggest names in Nigeria. We are particularly very passionate about shooting Nigerian weddings.

New York Model Photo shoot – By StudioMO Nigeria

    Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

I was in New York quite recently to attend to some business while I was in town I got to hangout with Steve Hardy and his crew at the Lighthouse Studios in Brooklyn New York to shoot some new models.

It was a full house with loads of photographers, makeup artists, stylist and models.

I had such a great time. Also it was a big break for me, getting to shoot outside of my comfort zone. I typically shoot mostly nigerian weddings but this time around I got to do some international fashion photography work.

The shoot was for a magazine and the theme was centered around tattoos (never seen so many tattoos in one place at the same time)

In between taking cover from the cold, I got  a few decent images and made a few friends, ( Holla Nicole !!!)

These images haven’t been properly retouched, I have just played around with colours to give them this final look.

Here are some of my images from the shoot

Need to get more gist on this shoot, head out to the Studio’s website

You can find all my latest pictures and blog post over at my new space http://studiomo.com.ng/category/kayodes-blog/

Be sure to check it out !!

When I started off shooting Nigerian weddings a few years back, my favourite lens used to be the super amazing 24-70mm 2.8 lens by Nikon, how time has changed. It was ( and still is) a safe lens and I even remember using it 90% of the time during my shoots too. I say safe lens because it was just that, a safe lens, it guaranteed nailing each and every shot first time, every time, the relatively short focal range made for very steady holding and focusing in dimly lit scenes.

It was also the only original Nikon glass in my camera bag at the time, so I used it as much as heavenly possible.

The problem now is, I find myself using that lens much less these days. Often times, I don’t even take it along in my camera bag anymore.

Ok, so I wouldn’t really call it a problem, because what I think has happened is that I have found my style for shooting weddings and the lens just doesn’t seem to fit in on my typical wedding shoot. I mostly  still use it a lot for some of my walk around sessions or documentary work but for weddings, I have so many super cream lens to chose from, this baby always gets left behind. So sad really, because it really is a very lovely lens, with premium glass with ridiculously sharp images.

Ok so which lens have stepped up to the forefront to take the number one position in my kit? If you follow my work you will know I am super in love with my 70-200, its by far my very best lens for shooting just about anything.(I have been know to even shoot group pictures with this lens) The 14-24mm Nikon lens, doesn’t automatically come to mind as a wedding photography lens, but trust me when I say this lens rocks any wedding, you just need to know how and when  to use.

Ok, so armed with my 2 Nikon bodies; the 70-200 on one and the 14-24mm on the other, I am perfectly primed to rock just about any wedding.

I would love to hear what you Nigerian Photographers out there consider to be the very best lens for wedding photography.

And because a picture is worth a thousand words, here are two images taken with my 2 favourite lens, hope you can spot the difference icon smile

PS : Just had to quickly mention the Nikon 85mm 1.4 . This is my go to glass when the lights gets very bad. Absolutely stunning images are produced by this lens, if you can afford it, get it !!!

Ify runs the blog, Hyperfashun and she has a story on the shoot, so head over to her blog to get the gist.

    Nigerian Weddings in Dubai

    Saturday, June 30th, 2012

I have been in the UAE, 3 times already this year and its really lazy of me to have waited this long to be sharing more of this images. In the past I had only shared 2 or 3 images at a time from this collection. Today i am sharing a whole lot more from my UAE collection. This awesome duo actually got married few weeks after this pictures were taken.

I can’t wait to shoot a Nigerian wedding in Dubai, I know all the great places and hotels to shoot at. A Nigerian wedding shot in Dubai would really be fantastic and out of this world. The usual Nigerian wedding is always overcrowded and uncoordinated. But imagine being able to shoot 2 beautiful people in love, far away from home with very few guests at beautiful exotic uncrowded locations.
The location for this shoot was the Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah – Luxury beach hotel in Dubai, UAE, a real jaw dropper of a hotel.
If you have plans of getting married in Dubai, give me a holla, don’t forget I still have that Bentley to save up for, I need all the help I can get. icon wink Nigerian Weddings in Dubai

    Hope you enjoy the images.

My name is Kayode and I shoot Nigeria weddings.
