The Traditional Nigerian Wedding of Tara and Tunde (Video)

    Friday, January 21st, 2011

Photographing the Nigerian wedding of Tara and Tunde was one of my peak moments of 2011. Tara and myself met via the Internet early in the year and we became quite friendly very quickly. Apparently she was about to have another photographer imposed on her, but knowing what she wanted she wasn’t going to have any of that, enter Xsightn.

How would i describe Tara ?

FIrst and foremost she was the first bride i got to shoot with a low hair cut, I loved that about her and was so very eager to shoot her. Tara is fun, she has an amazing sense of humour and she was just a joy to work with always ready to play infront of the camera.

So here’s a bit of history on how the couple met.

Tara  left Nigerian around 2001 and was based in the United Kingdom till 2008 when she returned for her NYSC , it was during her service year that she met Tunde Ajibulu, Tunde was one of her bosses, not a direct boss but a boss nonetheless. They dated for about 2 years and finally got married December 2010. Tara is currently based in Cameroon where she works in oil sector while Tunde works in Lagos as a tax consultant. Thats the full story in 2 lines ( Lol !!! trust Xsightn to keep it short and simple)

I finally got to meet both the bride and groom a few days to the wedding and I was truly glad I was chosen to shoot the wedding of this truly beautiful people.

I was contracted to shoot both the traditional wedding ceremony and the white wedding proper. The white wedding proper took place at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites which is one of the most beautiful venues to shoot wedding receptions in Nigeria( Ask any wedding photographer in Nigeria). The decoration and ambiance of the whole event was a marvel to behold.

While I will be uploading pictures from both the traditional and white wedding in my next blog posts, I thought I do something a bit different this time around to symbolize this truly gorgeous couple.

Below is a short wedding photography slideshow I quickly put together to capture their special day, I hope you all like it.

To Mr and Mrs Ajibulu, here’s to lots of babies, a happy married life and all the blessings your hearts desires.

The Nigerian Photography Podcast – Episode Six – The one with Leye Olumide – TOWLO

podcast The Nigerian Photography Podcast – Episode Six – The one with Leye Olumide – TOWLOEpisode 6 of the Nigerian Photography Podcast features Leye Olumide, A Nigerian Engineer based in the UK. Leye has fantastic insights into the world of international photography, he bears his mind on some issues relating to wedding photography in Nigeria.

We are still recording our podcasts with basic mobile recorders, still no fancy gear yet, audacity (the free app has been pure gold).

Leye was kind enough to donate a free copy of Joe Buissink and Cohen’s new book, “Wedding photography from the heart ” to one of our listeners.

What do you need to do to get the book?

My phone rings somewhere during the recording, recognize the ringtone ? First person to post which phone model rings gets the book, its that simple. (This is a new update and a better way to give out the book in my opinion, the initially suggested method of commenting is bound to lead to some controversy i guess) So, identify the phone and win the book.

Thanks for listening and feel free to distribute and share this podcast with your friends.

The Nigerian Wedding of Amina Kenku and Taiwo Agboola

    Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Amina Kenku and Taiwo Agboola celebrated their union on the 3rd of July 2010 and Xsightn had the pleasure of being the wedding photographer of the day. Both work in the marketing communications industry for advertising agencies.

While this was not my first time photographing a Nigerian moslem wedding, it definitely was the first time i was shooting one so colourful.

Taiwo and Amina’s wedding day was so special. As their union was blessed, Amina was breathtakingly beautiful in her gold wedding dress embellished with turquoise and other precious gems. With her hands and feet bedazzled with special bridal henna and precious stones, Amina’s dress was paired with a stunning gold veil with an embellished edge and a one-of-a kind gold and turquoise headpiece, she accessorized her bridal look with a gold necklace and earrings. The groom Taiwo was handsome in a white Sherwani with red and torquoise trimmings. Photographing such a beautiful colourful wedding in Nigeria was simply amazing.

Makeup was by the gorgeous Banke Meshida Lawal

We all at Xsightn, Nigeria’s leading wedding photography outfit based in Lagos Nigeria, wish Amina and Taiwo marital bliss, thank you for choosing Xsightn to document your beautiful date in history.

Nigerian Weddings : What happens to the remaining pictures

    Sunday, May 16th, 2010

So what happens to those wedding pictures that never make it to the final album ?

As a wedding photographer i usually average about 2500 pictures a wedding. after culling and editing i get maybe 200 images to fit into the wedding album and load a couple of hundreds more into the slideshow they get in HD format at the end of the day. I try to keep this minimal, so as not to get the collection too cramped up.

All my couples also get a jpeg cd/dvd with the same images on them, which brings me to my question, what happens to those numerous images that aren’t fit for prime time? What happens to those underexposed images,  those blurred images or those wedding pictures we feel as photographers shouldn’t be seen by the public.

To all the photographers based out there, both in Nigeria and internationally, how do you handle this images, when we shoot weddings, what happens to those pictures the couple never gets to see? Shouldn’t they  ?

Something in me always wants to give out all the pictures because in my opinion, they all represent a moment in their lives, which they will never be able to get back or see again.

I know professional photographers prefer to only show their good pictures, this i fully understand but as wedding photographers, should this bind us as well?

Shouldn’t the number of the great images in the album be enough to assure the couple that we are still amazing photographers when they see the not so great ones?

Just my views let me know what you think.

Attached are some pictures of a Saxophone player i met at a recent wedding in Nigeria, his name is Olasax and he’s such an amazing talent.
