Bridal Photo Shoot in Lagos, Nigeria – Preview

It’s no secret I have a sort of obsession with shooting weddings in Nigeria, from the brides, to the grooms, to the decor, to the decorations, there’s just something about Nigerian weddings that fuels me. I felt this same way years ago when I started my journey in photography and its pretty exhilarating that several years after, the zeal, the love, the passion remains 100% intact.Recently I have been doing quite a number of portfolio shoots for aspiring Nigerian models and I have found that to be fun as well, different models bring different “things” to the table and its alway fun trying to make the best of every models “gifts” during one of my sessions.

This particular post is a preview into a bridal photo shoot I did just recently that fused the best of both worlds together. Brides and Models.

While am still busy culling my images, am quite happy with what I think I was able to capture, am sharing 3 images right away, I went a bit artistic just because I think it works, what do you think?

Bridal photo shoot was done in collaboration with the wonderful people of Rose Blossom Bridals and The Best Western Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Rose Blossom is one of the leading names in the bridal industry when it comes to authentic and fresh bridal wears in the whole of Nigeria (Both my wife and sister had their dresses made by them, I never knew that until recently).Mrs. Elizabeth Oyeronke Sho-Silva started Rose Blossom Bridal about 10years ago at home in Nigeria. The Best Western Hotel, Victoria Island just opposite the bar beach is located on Ahmadu Bello Way, is part of the largest hotel chain in the world. The hotel is a beauty to behold and the view is nothing short of astonishing, with both a roof top tennis court and a swimming pool, the hotel is easily one of the most equipped in the country.

TRADITIONAL NIGERIAN WEDDING PHOTOS OF OYINDA AND ANDREW

Here are some wedding pictures from my Oyinda and Andrew collection, I shot this wedding in February and I had a blast. It was a 2 day affair with the traditional wedding taking place a day before the wedding proper. Both days were awesome (fast becoming my best word). Oyinda was an amazing bride who couldn’t stop smiling, every photographer’s dream. Andrew was such a gentleman, allowing me the freedom to do as I pleased on the day, together, they both made an amazing pair and it was sure a huge honour to have been selected to shooting this beautiful Nigerian wedding. It also so happens that the band they hired for the traditional wedding was the same band that played at my wedding about 3 years ago.

I couldn’t possibly post all the wedding pictures from the event, but here’s a number of them that actually made it into the final album, hope you like them and thanks for stopping buy.

Traditional Nigerian Wedding of Tosin and Orion Weissmann

The Traditional Nigerian Wedding of Tosin and Orion Weissmann.

As expected December 2010 turned out to be a massive year for my wedding photography business, it was easily my most busy month in the entire year shooting Nigerian weddings.

One of the beautiful brides i got to shoot in December was a gorgeous, soft spoken lady called Tosin Ola and like many of my Nigerian brides, we had been in contact for well over six months before we actually met a few days to the wedding, we were friends way before we ever even knew what we both looked like.

Tosin is easily the most adorable, most loving, most friendly person i met in 2010 and she was just a pleasure to work with.

If you are familiar with Nigerian weddings, you will know wedding days tend to get ver stressful for brides and they can get very “cranky” very fast, not Tosin, she was smiles all day, not for a single minute did she allow herself to get worked up.

The groom, Orion is American but you could swear he was Nigerian, he was fully down with the Nigerian hiphop scene as he knew just about every Nigerian musician and could even sing most of their songs.

Together Tosin and Orion make the perfect couple, as you will see in the pictures below, these two were deeply in love with each other.

Nigerian couples tend to be a bit cagey on their wedding days but not this two, they couldn’t stop holding and cuddling and kissing and whispering into each other’s ears, it was amazing to watch and breathtaking to shoot as a wedding photographer.

At times like this, i truly thank God that i shoot Nigerian weddings, documenting moments like this, is so very important to me, i could keep my fingers off the trigger and so for a one day wedding, i shot over 6000 images !!!

Yes, 6000 images, i just couldn’t help it, it was like missing out a shot would break the entire story, and it was important I told this story just the way it happened.

To Tosin and Orion, I thank you both from the bottom of my heart for chosing Xsightn to document your special day, out of the many talented Nigerian wedding photographers out there, you picked me and i thank you. I wish you both a very happy married life together.

A NIGERIAN WEDDING – PICTURES OF A BEAUTIFUL NIGERIAN BRIDE

Over the weekend, i had the pleasure of shooting the wedding of Folakemi and Yemi Adesanya in Lagos, Nigeria, 2 absolutely gorgeous couple. It was a pretty big affair that started as early as 7am, both the engagement and the wedding proper took place on the same day so as a photographer, i really had my hands full. Today i am sharing some images of the bride while she prepared for the engagement, i absolutely loves this pictures. Every single picture in this collection was shot with 100 % available light, no flash , i had 2 massive windows in the room producing the softest most beautiful light you could ever ask for as a wedding photographer. My sincere thanks to Yemmi and Folakemi for such a wonderful experience, thank you so much for making Xsightn a part of your day. The Nigerian Wedding of Amina Kenku and Taiwo Agboola

Amina Kenku and Taiwo Agboola celebrated their union on the 3rd of July 2010 and Xsightn had the pleasure of being the wedding photographer of the day. Both work in the marketing communications industry for advertising agencies.

While this was not my first time photographing a Nigerian moslem wedding, it definitely was the first time i was shooting one so colourful.

Taiwo and Amina’s wedding day was so special. As their union was blessed, Amina was breathtakingly beautiful in her gold wedding dress embellished with turquoise and other precious gems. With her hands and feet bedazzled with special bridal henna and precious stones, Amina’s dress was paired with a stunning gold veil with an embellished edge and a one-of-a kind gold and turquoise headpiece, she accessorized her bridal look with a gold necklace and earrings. The groom Taiwo was handsome in a white Sherwani with red and torquoise trimmings. Photographing such a beautiful colourful wedding in Nigeria was simply amazing.
