    God is Great

    Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Nothing as good as waking up in the morning and the very first call you receive is from a total stranger who really likes your work.

Because of my online presence I am fortunate to receive numerous emails from fans and buddying photographers who simply want to say nice work or just rub minds.

I missed a call on my phone this morning and decided to call back, the person on the other side introduced himself as a pastor and that he was calling from Ondo state.

He wanted me to know he had been on my website for the past 6 hours eating through my blog posts. He couldn’t stop showering me with praises and I felt really honored.

He went on to ask me to drop the call so he could call back (So that I wouldn’t finish my credit, I think, which was really thoughtful of  him). He called back and spent the next 15mins praying for me, I mean it was really strange and I have had the shivers all day. It was really intense prayers o, the type that combines english with yoruba.

I am only a photographer and to be getting the sort of attention I get at times is really nothing short of amazing.

I was just wanted to use this blog post not to talk photography but to thank God for my life, my family and my business and to bless all you guys out there. I pray all your heart’s desire will be met in Jesus name, Amen.

My name is Kayode, I am a leading wedding photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Because a picture is worth a thousand words, here’s something I like from my collections, it’s a Nigerian bride getting ready.

NIGERIAN WEDDINGS – PRE-WEDDING PHOTOSHOOT OF OSAN AND MISAN

    Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

I got to meet this couple for the first time today and we had this engagement session today.

It was a bit “fast” for me but the lighting was perfect and I had all my gear in my car from a photo assignment I did a day before.

While this photo session took place in Lagos, Nigeria, both the bride and groom are based in Delta State Nigeria where the wedding proper will be taking place.

Osan and Misan as you will see were totally not camera shy, we tried to keep everything clean and simple.

I personally think engagement shoots are very important because it allows for some bonding between the photographer and the couple, it would have been totally awkward getting to meet the couple on the wedding day proper. Imagine me walking over to them to introduce myself as the “official” wedding photographer of the day. It really would be strange, they wouldn’t really know what to expect, the chemistry required wouldn’t exist as well.

Today’s photo session was fun, we laughed alot and got to know each other a whole lot better, (Like i got to find out Osan was actually Misan’s “school father” back in the days, imagine how much laugh we got out of that )I left the session feeling like I had known them for ages.

Below are pictures from the session.

What make a great wedding picture?

    Wednesday, September 1st, 2010
What makes a picture a great photograph?
This could be a very tough question to answer, answers will vary from photographer to photographer and ultimately will also be subjective.
Ok, so what makes a great wedding photograph then?
Answer to this will also tend to vary from person to person, While some will say the picture where the bride smiles the most, some will say the picture which truely reflects the couple’s love for each other.
A professional wedding photographer might even go as far as saying a great wedding picture is that picture with the very best exposure, that picture which is composed the best, that picture with the very best lighting.
Don’t get me wrong, all the above points work.

They just aren’t what I consider to be great wedding pictures, good maybe but definitely not great.

I have been shooting Nigerian weddings for quite some time now and I have learnt alot in the time.

What I’ve learnt over the years as a wedding photographer has helped me to define what i consider to be a great wedding picture.
To me, a great wedding picture goes beyound technical perfection of an image, it’s about emotions, it’s about the couple.

A great picture is that which stares emotions in the couple when they go through their wedding album, its that picture that makes them smile, its that picture that makes them laugh, its that picture that makes them cry.

It’s about that picture which gets the couple to send you as a photographer a “thank you note” or call you to thank you in person for doing such a marvelous job.
As wedding photographers, the technical aspects of our photography should be second nature, we shouldn’t go to weddings thinking about what aperture to use, what shutter speed to shoot at, what iso will work best and the likes. We should be more concerned about capturing the moment.

The technical aspects needs to be second nature to us.

I remember reading somewhere that Joe Buissink, one of the greatest wedding photographers living today actually said he has a backup camera in full automatic mode, ready for just that moment, when the lighting on a shoot begins to act “funny”.

Please note that this are entirely my views.

So what makes a great wedding photo to you ?

Nigerian Pre-wedding shoot of Femi and Bimbo

    Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Nigerian Pre-wedding shoot of Femi and Bimbo.

Been too lazy to post anything in a while, just about musted out the strength to put this together.

This is the engagement photo shoot of Femi and Bimbo which i did a few weeks ago.

The Nigerian wedding takes place in September nd i simply cannot wait for this wedding.

They are such a fun couple to work with, they both couldn’t stop teasing each other, it was so much fun to watch (and shoot).

This shoot was done in the early hours of a Sunday morning when most of the world was probably still sleeping, the sun wasn’t out yet so the light was very soft and was just perfect to shoot such a lovely couple. I used a speed-light soft box for a couple of the shots just to give it some depth.
