Xsightn Photography is a Nigeria based fashion, wedding and lifestyle photography outfit. We love to think our approach to wedding photography is both fresh and urban. We pride ourselves of being one of the top wedding photographers in Nigeria, shooting high-end weddings for Nigerian couples based outside Nigeria. In 2010 we were privileged to shoot weddings for Nigerian brides based in the USA, UK, South Africa, Canada and Cameroon . While I started off shooting weddings, I have discovered a brand new love for fashion photography. "I love the fact that i am a wedding photographer and I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to capture and document, the memories, love, look and the happiness in my work" "I approach my wedding photography in a way that leads to an intimate and artful expression resulting in images that reflect your unique personality, capturing the natural mood of the day that will be cherished in your family for years to come." Kayode(the lead photographer) started his career in IT before training under some of the world's best known photographers. Throughout his photography career, Xsightn has developed a unique style of creating timeless imagery. He draws inspiration for everything around him, from movies and television, to literary figures and, of course, journalism. TRADITIONAL NIGERIAN WEDDING – THE ONE WITH FUNKE AND SEUN – TOWFAS – PREVIEW

As usual, am always so excited when am working on a new wedding. This particular wedding is very important to me because while i shot the elder sister’s wedding in December 2008, i got to shoot her in December 2009, talk about family business.
The wedding itself was well planned so i totally enjoyed myself (there was the horrible experience of misplacing one of my empty compact flash cards though). I shot over 6000 images all raw at both the wedding and engagement. It was one of the most beautiful weddings i ever photographed in Nigeria as a photographer, not just because of the location and decorations but because of the bride and groom themselves, you could see this two were in love. They couldn’t help holding hands and whispering into each other’s eyes and giggling, if only all Nigerian weddings could be like this.
Now, i said i shot of 6,000 images in raw format, on my amazing Nikon D700 camera, that comes to a whopping 75GB of pictures.

With my combination of Apple’s new 8 Core Mac Pro and my Drobo S, i ate through 6,000 images like paper.
Below is one of the pictures i got while the bride was getting ready for the traditional Nigerian wedding. Hope you all like it.

Making friends with your wedding couple

    Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

I try to approach wedding photography from a slightly different angle when I shoot a new couple. Very important to me is becoming friends with the bride and the groom, this is probably as important to be as getting the job in the first.

Standard is the pre-wedding shoot which allows me to bond with my new couple, it gives them the opportunity to be comfortable with my shooting style and also for me to fully get their trust. The pre-wedding shoot gives us a lot of bonding time, allowing them to access my character and get to know me a lot better.

Asides from the pre-wedding shoot which is pretty much standard with all Xsightn wedding packages, I also ensure I get to meet and hangout with them at least twice before the big day, during this period we not only talk about the coming wedding but also other stuff, how they met, what movies they enjoy, fun stuff really. Trust me when I say this bonding works wonders for my photography.

From the moment they see me on the day of the wedding I can see the relaxation in them; I always get a friendly hug from the bride. When you shoot a wedding in Nigeria, you can be sure you won’t be the only photographer covering the event, if you are lucky you will probably just get 2 other photographers, not to mention the video guys and their “halogen lights” (It’s standard practice in Nigeria for parents of the couple to also get their own photographers and video guys to cover the day). So there is always a lot to contend with. It becomes a battle of the strongest, if you are not fast and strong, you will lose the shot, at the end of the day it usually balls down to just getting “a” shot , rather than getting “the” shot.

“The” shot is what Xsightn is all about, this is were being friends with the couple begins to pay up really quickly, they always acknowledge your camera and you always get your shots. When the posed shots are composed, they are always looking out for your camera. When they smile towards you, the smile always feels more genuine. Why am I writing this now? Well am actually chatting with a bride I shot that year on google talk right now and she and her husband want to host me to lunch or dinner one of these days. It’s important we remain friends after the wedding too. I love what I do (wedding photography) and wouldn’t change it for the world
