About Xsightn Photography:

Xsightn Photography is a Nigeria based fashion, wedding and lifestyle photography outfit. We love to think our approach to wedding photography is both fresh and urban. We pride ourselves of being one of the top wedding photographers in Nigeria, shooting high-end weddings for Nigerian couples based outside Nigeria. In 2010 we were privileged to shoot weddings for Nigerian brides based in the USA, UK, South Africa, Canada and Cameroon . While I started off shooting weddings, I have discovered a brand new love for fashion photography. "I love the fact that i am a wedding photographer and I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to capture and document, the memories, love, look and the happiness in my work" "I approach my wedding photography in a way that leads to an intimate and artful expression resulting in images that reflect your unique personality, capturing the natural mood of the day that will be cherished in your family for years to come." Kayode(the lead photographer) started his career in IT before training under some of the world's best known photographers. Throughout his photography career, Xsightn has developed a unique style of creating timeless imagery. He draws inspiration for everything around him, from movies and television, to literary figures and, of course, journalism. Pre-wedding photos of Femi and Abigail

Here is an engagement session i shot over the weekend of Femi and Abigail, both are based in Abuja but the wedding and traditional weddings will be happening in Lagos, Nigeria.

I met up with Femi and Abigail  last saturday at a quiet location to shoot their engagement session. While we really wanted to shoot something quite exotic and exaggerated but ended up settling for simplicity.

My name is Kayode Martins and i am the lead wedding photographer for Xsightn Photography, a leading wedding photography outfit based in Lagos Nigeria.

Nigerian Wedding Photography of Bella and Jameel

Xsightn was one of the photographers to cover the wedding of Bella Adenuga and Jameel Disu.

This particular assignment was made possible by one of Nigeria’s photography icons, the amazing Jide Alakija.

Security at the event was fort knox style and all photographers had to wear tags to move around.

While a number of beautiful pictures of the couple have popped up all over the internet i feel some of them don’t really do justice to this lovely couple.

I have selected a few pictures from my extensive collection, which in my opinion are emotional and show 2 people truely in love.

All pictures in this collection are taken by Kayode, lead wedding photographer for Xsightn Photography, one of Nigeria’s better known Photography outfit.

Nigerian Weddings : What happens to the remaining pictures

    Sunday, May 16th, 2010

So what happens to those wedding pictures that never make it to the final album ?

As a wedding photographer i usually average about 2500 pictures a wedding. after culling and editing i get maybe 200 images to fit into the wedding album and load a couple of hundreds more into the slideshow they get in HD format at the end of the day. I try to keep this minimal, so as not to get the collection too cramped up.

All my couples also get a jpeg cd/dvd with the same images on them, which brings me to my question, what happens to those numerous images that aren’t fit for prime time? What happens to those underexposed images,  those blurred images or those wedding pictures we feel as photographers shouldn’t be seen by the public.

To all the photographers based out there, both in Nigeria and internationally, how do you handle this images, when we shoot weddings, what happens to those pictures the couple never gets to see? Shouldn’t they  ?

Something in me always wants to give out all the pictures because in my opinion, they all represent a moment in their lives, which they will never be able to get back or see again.

I know professional photographers prefer to only show their good pictures, this i fully understand but as wedding photographers, should this bind us as well?

Shouldn’t the number of the great images in the album be enough to assure the couple that we are still amazing photographers when they see the not so great ones?

Just my views let me know what you think.

Attached are some pictures of a Saxophone player i met at a recent wedding in Nigeria, his name is Olasax and he’s such an amazing talent.

    Shooting Nigerian Weddings

    Sunday, April 25th, 2010
I am writing this blog after discussing similar content with a fellow Nigerian wedding photographer based in Canada, we were sharing experiences covering weddings in Nigeria and conditions photographers in Nigeria have to contend with. The primary reason i got into wedding photography wasn’t to make money, i have always said that much.
My wedding photography business has now grown to the stage where i have the confidence and freedom to be very selective in the sort of weddings i shoot.

I do this primarily for one reason, to get the most absolutely beautiful pictures possible for the marrying couple
Quite a number of weddings you cover in Nigeria can really challenge your creativity as a Nigerian photographer so today i make my stands known on certain matters.

As a photographer i choose to be different

Xsightn will not shoot your wedding if you don’t appreciate my style of wedding photography.(This is a no brainer)It’ best to shoot events where your work is appreciated?

For all the money in the world, i will not shoot ANY wedding that restricts my direct access to the bride and groom at anytime during the ceremony. I experienced this recently, i couldn’t get close to the couple most times because they had hefty security people all over the place. It was horrible, i simply could not do great work that way.

If there will be more than 2 photographers/videographers covering your event, i most likely am not the wedding photographer for you.  I just won’t be able to cope with struggling to get the right shot.Nigerian weddings are know for having numerous photographers covering the same event, it gets very messy very fast with different photographers struggling to get a shot shot. 10 photographers + 1 couple + small venue = disaster ?

If as a bride, u want me to pose you in the manner that is now very common in Nigerian photography circles, then you are on your own am afraid. My style is purely photo journalistic, i will do the traditional group poses though. It’s quick important we are clear on this, its not really a case of i won’t but rather, i can’t. I love it when the bride is herself and i try to get her photographed in this mood.

If you don’t think a wedding photographer should have a wedding contract that should be binding or taken seriously, am not for you.

I love taking beautiful pictures of brides and grooms on their special day, if i am to give my absolute best then then i really need to shoot brides who love beautiful wedding photography.

Getting married this year ? Then give Xsightn a buzz, let’s talk, who knows, you just might be the next Xsightn bride.
